3.6 Selecting and Evaluating Digital Tools & Resources
Candidates collaborate with teachers and administrators to select and evaluate digital tools and resources for accuracy, suitability, and compatibility with the school technology infrastructure. (PSC 3.6/ISTE 3f)
Artifact: Presentation on IntuiFace Presentation Composer (emerging technology)
Reflection:
This project is a presentation and was a required course assignment on emerging technology for ITEC 7445. I submitted my completed project the summer term of 2013. The project targeted an in-classroom presentation tool, IntuiFace Presentation Composer (IPC), that was superior to other presentation tools due the ease of use. A free tail version of the IPC software allowed me to implement the tool temporarily for student use. The presentation and artifact is a summary of the justification for a software purchase, however the request was not fore filled.
The experience of shopping for and evaluating emerging technology was relevant and needed in order for me to better support my building's mission. This project demonstrates my ability to document the sustainability and compatibility of technology resources. This project is descriptive of the student population and our students' unique learning needs. Prior to this project, my justifications for technology resources were presented in a general terms.
This project influenced my efforts to expand justification and align resources to the building and community levels. I value this investigation for its exploratory manner and its reflection on sustainability, and compatibility of building resources. Prior to this project, technology purchases could be requested within boundaries of limited justification. Evaluating program additions prior to obtaining new resources will better support effective teaching practices.
The ongoing development with emerging technology has become familiar, and my approach to adopting resources will be based on the changing needs of student learning in my building. In the future I will continue to seek and evaluate learning tools to advance the student learning process. Student participation in technology use influences student learning participation and learning gains can be observed and statistically measured.
