Artifact: Internet Safety Blog Post
Reflection:
My blog is a result of a class requirement for ITEC 7430, spring 2014. This artifact demonstrates mastery of Standard 4.2. The post reflects my advocacy for safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses of digital publications. Over the past six years, I have facilitated blended and online content instruction and professional development. I stated in my blog post, the discussion of internet etiquette is always my first online instruction objective. The discussion of how participating online can mean facing unwarranted behavior of others is presented to online users in a serious manner.
To ensure online participants understand the seriousness of internet etiquette, I provide examples of cyber bullying, such as the examples on my blog. The examples of cyber bullying illustrate Internet defamation of character. My own experience with online slander made this blog post a very personal post. Like many victims of cyber slander, I have not been able to eradicate most of the negative digital content from the virtual environment. Villainess images and comments from a decade ago keep this topic a critical part of my online instruction practice. As an advocate and new to education blogging, this post is in support of positive online behavior, and urges online participants to guard against online bullying.
I measure the success of online participation by increasing the number of participants that are learning online and have increased their knowledge of proper online protocols. In the future, I will follow-up on policies and legislation that address online slander, and I plan to present more information regarding the progress of cyber laws. In presenting the problem and the consequences of negative behavior, I hope my efforts make a difference in the school community and the virtual learning environment..
