Candidates model and promote strategies for achieving equitable access to digital tools and resources and technology-related best practices for all students and teachers. (PSC 4.1/ISTE 5a)
Artifact: Digital Equity Blog
Reflection:
My blog is a result of a class assignment for ITEC 7430, spring 2014. This artifact demonstrates mastery of Standard 4.1. The blog reflects my practice of promoting strategies to achieve equitable access to digital tools, resources, and technology. My post on digital equity provided an informative commentary on the state of digital ownership. The disparity of virtual access between online users and non-online, or limited-online users, is due to the nature of economics. World wide computer users are logging onto the Internet. however there are varying differences in online participation. Noted by Barron (2006) as the digital divide no longer refers to computer ownership or that of basic access to the Internet. My blog elaborates further on the growing digital divide.
My blog is a tool that I can use to share academic concerns. Readers contribute comments to my posts and the exchange of information produces a discussion forum. Having a means to communicate is the foundation for change. Student participation in online learning that is not having the same success at all schools is is a conversation that needs to be at the forefront of education policy. My post on digital Equity demonstrates that this is a topic that educators beyond by district are also concerned about and are investigating the varying situations.
My blog recognizes the complexity of the equity problem inside and outside the school building, along with the challenges communities face to bring about changes. The blog is my effort to draw attention to, stimulate discussion of. and to encourage the efforts of those that support change.
Writing a blog requires me to be responsible for the things that I can change, and I have learned that the more people agree with you there is more possibility for change and influence. From having this blog, I learned to speak out more on matters that concern people around me. At every level, a group effort can have more impact, but every group must communicate.
