Artifact: ISTE Conferences and Twitter
Reflection:
The ISTE 2014 conference was held June 28 to July 4 in downtown Atlanta. Hosted annually by the International Society for Technology in Education, ISTE is is globally recognized as the most comprehensive educational technology conference of its kind. The event offers professional learning opportunities for teachers of all disciplines, tech coordinators, administrators, superintendents, teacher educators and media specialists as well as government and industry representatives.
My attendance and participation at ISTE demonstrated my dedication to growth in knowledge and skills of technologies.I attended sessions for developing strategies to engage digital learning and I learned advanced methods that aligned science concepts to Common Core State Standards and ISTE Standards. The best workshop for me was a workshop using Twitter. I have a Twitter account that connects me with educators across the country. I have become a follower of educators that give voice to classroom-teacher concerns.
Attending the ISTE conference was very beneficial for me; I gained unique knowledge and ideas that related to my education in instructional technology. I value knowing other educators have similar practice challenges and seek professional development opportunities to gain skills with using emerging technologies. I look forward to expanding my communication reach using my Twitter account, and I plan to use Twitter to support favorable education policies.
The conference influenced my practice most by the excitement and energy shard by the thousands of teachers present. It felt so good to be held as a professional in so many conversations about teaching. Too often teachers are spoken to with a lack of respect or regarded as low in profession status. I was encouraged each day to be the best teacher I can be.
